The Southampton branch of the teaching union the NEU has advised teachers that they should refuse to work if there is no running water tomorrow.

Bruno Duckworth-Russell from the branch said: “We are aware that a number of schools within Southampton are experiencing water supply issues, as are a number of you in your homes.

“Schools within Southampton are already announcing closures for tomorrow.

“Schools must have hot and cold running water and suitable toilet facilities as specified in Section 9 of the School Premises (England) Regulations Act 2012.

“We fully anticipate any school affected by this, and without suitable facilities tomorrow, to announce closure.
