Guardian article from Isabella Tree talks about grass fed beef. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/aug/25/veganism-intensively-farmed-meat-dairy-soya-maize?CMP=share_btn_tw
BUT let’s look at the figures
1.5 acres of land can produce 37,000 lbs of plant foods vs 1.5 acres can produce only 375 lbs of meat. So meat farming is 98.6 times less productive than fruit and veg farming…. figures taken from the WEB. If this is true then Meat farming is certainly not the only answer and we can deduct from these figures that the land use efficiency for meat production is not as efficient as land in production of fruit and vegetables.
We have the technology to grow any crop on any soil type without any chemicals. It’s called Going Beyond Organics. see our HOME page. Good Gardeners International. This could be done on millions of acres thus reducing the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions dramatically. The returns can vary from 20 – £40,000 per acre per year.
This is more likely the way to SAVE THE PLANET and FEED THE WORLD. According to the BBC on many programmes sequestering Carbon, as we do. By returning organic matter to the land in such an efficient manner as with the HH-2 system rather than sending all food waste to Bio Digesters, we sequester more Carbon than planting trees. SO THIS INDICATES that this system of farming, judging by the figures from the internet, has to be one of the best ways to regenerate the Planet, saving Fuel, saving Carbon and preserving all the pollinators and feeding people all at the same time.
It does require though that we have to change our diet. As we have heard on the BBC many times…We have to eat less meat ….You can’t save the planet without some sacrifice….we can’t go on the way were are. We only have one planet…. if we all ate the American diet……we would need two planets.
Besides here in Wales there is very little fruit and Veg production and this is required to improve the nutrition of our School Children and Students. We see fresh food cooking is being bypassed in School Kitchens as they are now closed and imported pre packed meals are brought in to feed the children.
